UPC vs ASIN vs FNSKU: What do you actually need to print?
If you are new to the Amazon ecosystem, the alphabet soup of acronyms can result in mislabeled inventory and costly inbound errors. Here is exactly what you need to know about generating barcodes for Seller Central.
UPC / EAN
The manufacturer's global barcode. Used to initially list the product on Amazon. Do not use this for FBA labeling unless you are utilizing "Manufacturer Barcode Tracking" (which risks comingled inventory).
ASIN
Amazon Standard Identification Number. This is the 10-character alphanumeric catalog identifier (starts with B00). This is for the digital listing, not for printing on physical labels.
FNSKU
Fulfillment Network SKU. This is uniquely tied to your specific seller account. It usually starts with "X00". This is the only barcode you should generate and stick on your packaging.
